I’d like to introduce you to my children, who I was fortunate enough to capture all in the same frame the other day:

The beautiful girl on the left is Pocket, our chihuahua-beagle mix (we think) who was found wandering the streets of downtown Tuscaloosa by my dog-loving father-in-law and sister-in-law.  We adopted her in September of 2015, and she has been my husband’s shadow ever since.

The handsome fellow in the middle is Hayduke, AKA the best present I have ever received!   When we first got Pocket, she had a lot of separation anxiety issues, so we immediately started discussing getting another dog as a companion for her.  Chatham was at work one evening the week of Christmas 2015 (or so I thought), when I heard a knock on the door.  I peeked through the window and saw Chatham’s cap and got so excited that he was home early.  When I opened the door, he had the most adorable puppy in his arms!  I was reading The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey at the time, so we named him Hayduke after the main character.  Our sweet Pocket was absolutely thrilled to have a puppy of her own.  Hayduke isn’t the brightest bulb, but he is a gentle and gorgeous dog (and a very good boy).

The angel on the right is Hayduke’s favorite human, Carla May.  She was born in October of last year and has totally changed our lives for the better.  She is named after my wonderful mother-in-law Carla and my brilliant sister Mellie May.  Watching her grow and seeing her personality develop have been the greatest joys I have experienced.  I am trying to savor every moment with her, but I am also excited for what is to come.
