A few months ago, I gave my daughter Carla May a Ritz cracker with peanut butter for the first time, and her entire body broke out into a red rash – one of the scariest moments of this motherhood journey so far! I haven’t given her any nut products since then, and we finally made it to the allergist this week to see if there is anything we can do. We had to get CM’s blood drawn for some lab work and we should receive the results in a few days. She (and I) hated getting her bloodwork done, but she loved playing with the crinkly paper on the table!
Also, here is a cute shot of my girl in the bathtub, just because. 🙂
Here are a few more things that brought me joy this week:
Solar Eclipse 2017
Like I mentioned before, we were excited to attend the special Destin Eclipse viewing at the Morgan Sports Complex. By the time we got there, all the shady trees were taken, so we set up in the baseball dugout to keep from getting sunburned. We only had about 85% solar eclipse coverage here in Destin, but it was still a very cool experience. I was expecting it to get much darker during the eclipse, but I did not expect the 5-10 degree temperature drop! All of the shadows looked crazy during the eclipse, as well – almost as if the shadow edges were shaky. If you are interested in the solar system, The New York Times has a great calendar feature so you never miss an astronomic event.
A Man Called Ove movie
Chatham and I watched this movie together the other night and LOVED it! The movie follows the story of the book (reviewed here) very closely, in which a grumpy old man still grieving the loss of his wife copes with his neighborhood changing all around him. The actors did a wonderful job portraying the characters almost exactly as I had pictured them, and as with the book, the ending had me in tears. The audio is in Swedish, so be prepared to read subtitles during this film.
Birthday Party Planning
With Carla May’s first birthday party right around the corner (C-R-A-Z-Y!!!), I am in the very preliminary stages of planning her birthday party. We aren’t going to do anything huge or extravagant, but a first birthday is definitely something we should celebrate! Since CM is OBSESSED with doggies (and of course “doggie” is one of the few words she can say!), we are going to throw a puppy-themed party in the backyard. So far, all I’ve done to plan is get lost in the Pinterest rabbit hole, but hopefully I’ll find the time to start crafting and preparing soon!
Fall is on it’s Way!
Ok, I know, I know, it is still in the 80s and 90s during the day here in Destin… BUT it is no longer sweltering hot when I take the dogs out first thing in the morning! AND the first Alabama football game is next Saturday! Both of which are signs that my all time favorite season is approaching. (#basic #noshame)
